What is Odd even rule?
Delhi is often accused of
being a city that does not care, but on Friday, 1 Jan 2016, the city
demonstrated to the world that Delhi did care, when they responded positively
to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s call to follow the odd-even car number rule.
Looking towards the alarming condition of pollution in
Delhi, Delhi government (AAP) formulated “ODD EVEN rule,” this was scheduled to
implement on first of January in Delhi province. This rule was announced on fourth
of DECEMBER. The Delhi government's new proposed
rule involves running vehicles with odd and even numbers on alternate days.
The AAP cabinet announced private vehicles would be allowed to run
across the city based on their registration numbers. For example, if a
vehicle's registration number ends with an odd digit, it will be allowed on the
road on January 1, while that ending with an even number can be driven on the
second, and so on.
This system was first formulated and implemented in Beijing in 2008, At
that time it was temporary and the it was made permanent, similar rule was imposed
in Paris.
ULTIMATE ANALYSIS:
Delhi ODD EVEN rule ended on 15th of January. Following are
the ultimate analysis of this imposed rule:
·
There were comparatively less
number of cars, but yes, there were many cars around.
·
Traffic Jams were less.
·
Most of the pollution meter still showed
particulate matter levels way above permissible limits.
·
Thousands of vehicles were not stranded in long
jams as they stopped their engines that were spreading toxic emissions in the
air, means it is that much less pollution.
Should Odd-Even Formula Be Continued?
If it were left to me, I would impose more
restriction on Delhi Vehicles and continue this odd even rule because some
steps have to take to curb pollution in Delhi. We people have to become aware
and take steps to reduce this prevailing problem in Delhi. We have to see the
brighter side of this rule.
Government are here to make laws, it is up to
us to make these laws effective. If this law continues, it will definitely help
to reduce the pollution level to some extent. The
city has no choice but to try all means at its disposal to address the growing
problem of pollution. I am not saying that this is going
to be the best of all, but it is a step toward the betterment of the state and
a good step to reduce pollution in the state.
It is time for all
citizens of India not only Delhiites to be aware of the dangers
or effect of pollution and extend full cooperation to all measures and
initiatives that the government undertakes. After all, it is all our lives at
stake.
